Business Workshop: DC Government Resources for Local Businesses

The DC Mayor’s Office on African Affairs invites you to a business workshop which will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Reeves Municipal Building’s Edna Frazier-Cromwell Community room 2nd floor  from 6pm to 8pm (see flyers in English [PDF], French [PDF] and Amharic [PDF] attached and below for details).
This workshop is hosted in partnership with the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA), the Deputy Mayor’s Office on Planning and Economic Development (DMPED)who will discuss the following: 
  • DCRA’s Synthetic Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia Campaign: DCRA is launching a campaign to educate businesses about the adverse public health and safety risks associated with the sale of synthetic drugs and the implications for businesses carrying these products.  
  • DMPED’s GREAT STREETS Capital Improvement Grant: The Office of the Deputy Mayor will be awarding individual grants up to a maximum of $85,000 each to support and foster growth amongst small businesses.  Grant funds may be utilized to reimburse the grantee for the purpose of capital expenditures to improve the subject property. As part of its Business Engagement Program, the Office on African Affairs is carrying out an aggressive door to door and media outreach  to connect African businesses to District government resources and information. We invite local business to take advantage of this great opportunity for face time with government representatives, learn about regulations that affect them, and access resources & growth opportunities to develop their business.
